I apologize for being somewhat neglectful. I'm getting married in a little over two months and that plus the stress of papers and presentations (which seem to be the new favorite thing of professors) has driven me a little crazy. It's been a really great semester so far, over all. And I've been working on posts but haven't finished them. (I also apologize for flaws in the blog design. I'm getting a little frustrated with Weebly….)

1. If you make a list of priorities and uncompromisable desires, your wedding planning will be a lot smoother.
Because money is no object on this your very special day and everyone wants what the bride wants. 2. Once you make a decision, everyone will help you get it done. People are so excited about your wedding that they will sop up every detail and definitely never ask you to go over all of it again when you ask for help with an upcoming decision. 3. Your wedding will be picturesque. Photographers cost thousands of dollars. For their most basic package. For example. And everyone understands that you may pass over a family friend in favor of a proven professional. 4. Your wedding day is your day. In this enlightened age, parents know that they don't own their children and they certainly aren't passing over the ownership of their daughter. The decisions of the couple are their own to make. Relatives love traveling long distances and don't expect you to fulfill arbitrary traditions. So weddings are never embarrassing, humiliating, compromising, or frustrating. Yesterday in one of my classes… I became painfully aware that a lot of people – a LOT of people – still don't understand depression. I can understand, since those with depression often don't understand it themselves. But it was disheartening to realize so many people don't get how deceiving and complicated the mind can be. (Even outside of mental illness, I might add.) Depression is not as simple as getting hung up on a reality. It's often accompanied by unrealistic expectations, disappointments, and impressions, including that nobody cares – and yet rejecting help out of fear and who knows what else. I'll only speak for myself and for me, it's a complete sense of hopelessness that can be triggered, unforeseen, by something almost insignificant. –And snowballs past the point of reason.
I wish I had spoken up in class yesterday – to reassure everyone that depression, indeed, doesn't make sense. But I couldn't find the words and I was afraid. I don't usually talk about my problems, having been misunderstood and taken advantage of in the past. And I was distressed to find that my fears are not entirely unfounded. It's a little confusing to me that a doll called Barbie could have so many different appearances. I was always somewhat skeptical of the criticisms that said Barbie was unrealistic. If you're in the marketing or design world, you would probably tell me that "unrealistic" is just everyday stuff in your business. At least, that's what I've learned in my graphic design classes: you design for appeal.
That's one of the reasons why these lovely ladies look like this:
I still have depression and anxiety. It's why I can't stay awake past 10 to study, but I can stay up until 1 in the morning drawing, cutting, and stringing tiny paper ornaments for the tiny Christmas tree I bought for my flat earlier that day. It's why I can think of a bunch of things I really want to do but I only lie there in bed with my shower towel still wrapped around my head because I don't want to move.
