Full disclosure, I have never seen a full Jurassic movie before. But I have seen parts of them, and I dare say that "Jurassic World" carries on the tradition with well-executed epicness.

Bee Movie came out in 2007 with a plot not completely original but still unusual. DreamWorks wove a story about a bee not content with the life laid out for him. On a lucky break, Barry was able to leave the hive to see the world, and once he broke out of the mold, he couldn't go back. By the time the movie is over, he has broken just about every bee law in the book. Shocked to find that honey is being sold to humans, Barry vows to rectify the situation and ensure that bees are given proper treatment and credit for their hard work. But what will this entail? And can he do it? In the end, as in any story, it all turns out right, but is it what you expected? Barry learns just how important bees are to the environment. A cute little movie only valuable as mild amusement, Bee Movie has a few rough edges. Rating: D Points: 6/10 (see sidebar) This is a tricky movie to review. It was certainly different from the first. In some ways, it wasn't the great classic I think the first is made to be, but I still walked out of that movie theater going, "Wow! I wouldn't mind seeing that one again!" Without giving too much away: Mater struggles with being "an idiot," which is not a new topic. However, as always, Pixar handles the conflict with amazing ability. As Mater-fans all over the world already know, Mater is no idiot. Mostly it's fun, and I think car geeks and techies will get the greatest kick out of it, but it certainly was entertaining. Although the movie's focus is more on Mater, Lightning is still in the movie spotlight, and he learns yet another lesson on friendship. At no point during the movie did I want to say, "This is another one of those stupid sequels about a supporting character," or, "Oh how cliche!" Although the concepts weren't new and the "revelations" predictable, Pixar doesn't lay heavy on the dull. It worked out great for them! The set up worked, the build up was smooth, the climax took an unexpected turn, and the resolution was perfect. (And who doesn't need a few dents? ;) ) None of the trailers I could find do this movie justice -just watch it. This gets my nine out of ten, and a D (see sidebar). Be advised the images are sometimes intense and the vicious actions of one or more cars may be too much for young children. |
